Upcycled Kitchen

Designed by Alice Design and Domestic Arts

This modern remodel of a 1921 Dutch Colonial kitchen in Portland’s Irvington neighborhood upcycles an old kitchen with good bones into a model of form and function.  Designed by Kevin Fischer of Alice Design and Charlotte Cooney of Domestic Arts, the kitchen remodeling project stripped away layers of disjointed architectural accretion to restore harmony through subtle-yet-innovative applications of traditional materials in cabinetry, counters and floors.  A pressed tin ceiling ties the kitchen remodel to the rest of the historic home – modern appliances and fixtures exist in accord with traditional detailing.
