Commercial renovation converts service door into a main entrance to restaurant and brewery.

Throngs of tourists and locals alike pass through Post Alley at Pike Street Market every day.  It’s a vibrant pedestrian thoroughfare lined with restaurants, shops, and the famed “gum wall.” But until recently, Post Alley passersby missed an important thirst-quenching feature hiding in plain sight: The Pike Brewing Company. The restaurant and brewery were right there, but a nondescript solid service door separated the business from the bustle of the alleyway.

Charles Finkel, owner of Pike Brewing Company and a noted graphic artist, designed a small but strategic commercial renovation to solve the problem: an airy glass entry door and window wall that connects the establishment with Post Alley outside and brings light into the 3-story stairwell inside.
