Timeless NW Tudor
Designed by Thesis Studio.
Not every Hammer & Hand project requires a full home transformation. Sometimes, relatively simple upgrades in functionality and aesthetics can go a long way towards improving the comfort and practicality of a home. An example of such a project was a first-floor remodel our team recently completed in Portland’s Beaumont-Wilshire neighborhood.
As an historic NW Tudor, the home came with a lot of character but lacked practicality in some key areas. In particular, the small kitchen was closed off from the rest of the common areas — a situation that was less than ideal for a family that loves to cook! Together with Thesis Studio, Hammer & Hand was able to open up the space, creating a kitchen as functional as it is beautiful. Whereas some projects remold the entire feel of a home, the thoughtful, elevated design by Andy Barlow was able to transform the kitchen, dining, and living rooms without impacting the charming original character of the house. The pairing of elegant cabinets from Ross Hayes at Precision Custom Cabinets with an artful backsplash by Erik Trexel at Level Plane Tile and Stone contributes a soft luxury to the open space. The result is a first floor that feels like a natural evolution of the original historic design; managing to both maintain the personality of the home while also modernizing the usability of the space.
Supervised with aplomb by Site Superintendent and Carpenter Roman Emery, along with phenomenal work by Carpenters Carrie Healy and Andy Larson, Hammer & Hand was able to uplift the aesthetic and functionality of this home and provide the family a bright, open, timeless space in which they can create memories for years to come!
