Retail commercial TI’s recently completed for Danner, WILL Leather Goods, and Marine Layer.
Union Way, the hip new alleyway/galleria development that connects Portland’s Pearl District with the hopping West End, is home to nine new shops. Hammer & Hand recently completed the commercial build-out of three of those stores.
Situated as it is at the epicenter of the Portland metro’s retail scene, Union Way, developed by Project Ecological Development, has attracted lots of attention from shoppers and media alike. See these articles in The Oregonian, Daily Journal of Commerce Oregon, and Portland Architecture.
Hammer & Hand’s Kevin Guinn managed the three build-outs for Danner, WILL Leather Goods, and Marine Layer.
DANNER
We love Danner – we wear their work boots and share their Portland roots. So we jumped at the chance to work with Danner’s Haven Anderson, Karen Wolf, and Peter Christenberry to help them realize their vision for this unique, lifestyle concept store. Locally-sourced native wood graces the interior. A living wall of native plants and a hand-rendered mural of Mt. Hood serve as display wall focal points. Designed by Brian Pietrowski and informed by the classic 1940s teardrop camper, the store’s dressing room is clad in native Madrone and stylized to create a buzz-worthy experience. The commercial TI (tenant improvement) took just four weeks, from start to finish. Check out our full Danner photo gallery.
WILL LEATHER GOODS
WILL Leather Goods’ Will Adler liked what he saw happening at the neighboring Danner store so he approached Hammer & Hand project supervisor Scott Gunter about building out his store. We built a mocked-up version of the store in a Southeast Portland warehouse so that Will and his team could be sure that everything they wanted to do in the space was going to work. We then completed the finishes and transferred the fixtures to their pre-determined places. Turnaround for the project was 14 days.
MARINE LAYER
San Francisco-based Marine Layer’s Josh Gladding was looking for a contractor to build out the clothing store’s first Oregon location. Shane Adler from WILL recommended our team. Marine Layer already had most of their own fixtures selected, so we set to work doing the finishes, coordinating the lighting for the space and installing the fixtures. Hammer and Hand’s Adrian Anderson worked with Josh to design/build a loft storage area with a custom-fabricated industrial rebar ladder and engineered reclaimed lumber posts and aircraft wire.
Commercial projects like these are especially satisfying to build for Hammer & Hand both for their speed and for the entrepreneurial energy that surrounds them. We get to help our commercial clients create a three-dimensional representation of their company’s essence and brand. It’s fun work.
