Growing Gardens is a gem in Portland’s nonprofit communityHammer & Hand sponsors Growing Gardens "Chef In My Garden", dedicated to digging at the root of hunger by building organic home gardens in urban backyards and schools.  This year marks the 10th anniversary of the group’s “Chef In My Garden” dinners, and Hammer & Hand is proud sponsor of the group’s mouthwatering August 5th event.  Check out Growing Gardens’ description of the evening:

August 5, Gabi and Greg Denton of Ox, in the gardens of Celine Fitzmaurice and Larry Olson

Gabi and Greg find inspiration in the wood-fired grilling tradition of Argentina, and with it, the culinary heritage of Spain, France and Italy. You’ll savor their “Argentine-inspired Portland food” in Celine and Larry’s Mt. Tabor garden. It’s a colorful work in progress– Japanese influence meets English garden in an edible landscape, full of recycled plants with an eye toward four season color and compatibility. Tour Larry’s studio and immerse yourself in the intimate landscapes of his signature photographs featured in Oregon Rivers.

Hammer & Hand’s charming Kevin Guinn will be there as well, so the event is not to be missed!

“Growing Gardens started the Chef In My Garden dinners ten years ago to emphasize the simple yet revolutionary idea that the seeds of a healthier world are planted in our own backyards,” said GG’s Executive Director Deb Lippoldt.  “These dinners highlight eating right out of the garden – great meals prepared by fabulous chefs using locally grown foods and the best regional wines – in the home garden.

“We’re thrilled to highlight Hammer & Hand as a sponsor – their environmental focus is a perfect match for our own organizational ethic.  Thanks to all our sponsors, all event expenses are underwritten, making it possible for us to raise nearly a quarter of our annual revenue through these dinners.  Thanks for helping us GROW!”

It’s a pleasure and honor to support innovative community-based efforts like Growing Gardens, and to eat well while doing it!
