Sam Hagerman to moderate AIA Seattle continuing education intensive, “Passive House: High Performance and High Design,” next Tues, Sept. 17

The four-hour session, to be held at The Bullitt Center, will feature case study presentations by NW architects.

On behalf of the Passive House Alliance US, Hammer & Hand’s Sam Hagerman has collaborated with AIA Seattle sustainability director Cassandra Delaune to present the September 17th morning session at The Bullitt Center.  Entitled “Passive House: High Performance and High Design,” the four-hour intensive will feature discussion, presentations, and case studies by builders, architects and Passive House experts.

Case studies of high design Passive House projects.

Sam will present about Passive House and how its emphasis on design simplicity makes it a natural complement to both high design projects and the ambitious Living Building Challenge.  Joe Herrin of Heliotrope Architects will share the award-winning Green Lake Passive House as a case study.  Jeffrey Stuhr and Cory Hawbecker of Holst Architecture will share their experience with the noted Karuna House.  Graham Irwin of Essential Habitat will be joined by Hammer & Hand’s Skylar Swinford to present about net zero energy and Passive House.

Sign-up for the session here.  And check out this sister presentation to be held that afternoon, “Design Lessons from the Living Building Challenge,” by BNBuilders’ James Jenkins.
