General Contractor Hammer & Hand’s Musician’s Dwelling new home project, designed by Departure Design has garnered well-deserved attention: featuring coverage in the Oregonian, an article in the national green building Jetson Green, and inclusion in the City of Portland’s Build It Green Home Tour in 2010. This weekend the home gets more limelight as part of the inaugural Portland Modern Home Tour. The home, at 1524 SE Ivon St., Portland, is open from 11am to 5pm to ticket holders.

Built in 2010 by Hammer & Hand’s Stephanie Lynch the one bedroom, 1,400sf dwelling includes an open studio for music painting, and videography.

The straightforward, modern design balances simplicity and restraint. Irregular but beautiful natural materials, like the salvaged fir siding from the Oregon State Mental Hospital, are set against playful colors and forms, like the bright yellow spiral stairs.

The result is an exciting and cost-effective design. The bottom-floor garage space is plumbed and wired for a future Accessory Dwelling Unit.

Tickets to the tour include access to nine modern homes and are $30 until March 8th or $40 on the day of the event.

NOTE: Enter discount code “DEPARTURE” and receive $5 off the $30 advance ticket price.
