The detached accessory dwelling unit earns gold for resource efficiency and environmental responsibility.

Detached accessory dwelling unit wins gold certification from Earth Advantage Institute. It’s official.  Earth Advantage Institute just bestowed gold certification on the Alameda Ridge ADU as an “Earth Advantage New Home.”

Accessory dwelling units – also called backyard cottages, granny flats, and mother-in-law’s apartments – bring lots of community, environmental, and household benefits.  (Read more about ADUs on our Accessory Dwelling Unit page.)

But the opportunity to combine small footprint with energy efficiency is among the most exciting aspects of the housing type.  The eco-friendly ADU represents an exciting sustainable building option, and one with lots of embedded community benefits.  So it was gratifying to receive recognition from Earth Advantage Institute for the Alameda Ridge ADU project.

Thanks go to our forward-thinking client, a dedicated crew, and Earth Advantage Institute for its efforts in promoting the adoption of environmentally responsible building practices.
